For over 16 years, I lived in the land of false starts.

Every morning, I swore I was going to eat better, move my body, stay consistent, and reach my body goals.
Sometimes I’d make it 3 days.
Sometimes I made it 3 months.

I’d wake up hopeful, telling myself, “Today’s the day I finally turn it around.”
But by the time I climbed into bed, all that hope had curdled into shame.
Maybe I skipped my workout.
Maybe I binged.
Maybe I just didn’t do anything I said I would.

And then came the thoughts. The brutal, relentless ones:

“What is wrong with you?”
“You said you were serious this time.”
“You always screw it up.”
“You’re never going to change.”
“Other people manage it. Why can’t YOU?”
“You’re hopeless. You’re weak. You’re a failure.”

I’d lie there in the dark, feeling that awful, crushing tightness in my chest—the kind that makes it hard to breathe, like guilt and grief got tangled up and sat on my heart.

Not just disappointment. Not just frustration.

It was that soul-heavy, hollow ache of defeat – the kind that whispers, “Maybe it’s just never going to happen for you.”

I can’t tell you how many nights I cried quietly so no one else would hear.
Not because I didn’t care.
But because I cared so much… and kept failing anyway.
